Great Southern Rail Trail in South Gippsland

Great Southern Rail Trail

A 72 km railtrail through the green farmlands and forests of South Gippsland ending up on the coast line. Its well graded and flat. The trail runs from Leongatha and runs through the towns of Koonwarra, Meeniyan, Stony Creek, Buffalo, Fish Creek, Foster, Toora, Welshpool and Port Welshpool.

There is no train service to the area but buses run through some of the towns.

So you are either going to bring your bikes in a car or you are going to hire bikes from Viv Ross and the staff at the Meeniyan Motel or there is bike hire in Foster.

The initial decisions you have to make are, how far can we ride in a day and how can we get our bikes there and where are we going to stay. Its possible that you could ride one way and uses buses to return to get your car.  For those decisions I will leave you with these  websites so you can explore a bit further. It certainly looks like great two wheeled entertainment.
